HOW TO SPEND A RAINY DAY IN MILAN

If you missed my last blog post, you probably won't know that I've recently jetted off to Milan! To my misery, I'm now back in the UK, but at least with some wonderful memories. If you've been following my blog for a while, you may have gathered by now that me and Sam are big fans of Italy, with our previous travel destination choices including Venice and Rome. So when we came across a bargain of a deal on Groupon, we decided Milan was the next place to tick off our travel list.
Our short trip only lasted 2 days and 3 nights but was crammed with plenty of pizza, coffee and cake breaks, shopping, walking for miles, and visiting every tourist spot we could find! This post is a little run through of our first day in the fabulous city, unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side, but it didn't deter us from exploring all day long. Here's what we got up to...

We began out first day by simply wandering the streets of Milan. Exploring the surroundings and getting our bearings. We then ventured to the main square where you find the famous Duomo cathedral (more of that to come in my second day post) but also The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - one of the city's most famous landmarks. This beautiful shopping mall has such amazing architecture you could literally stare at it all day. It's the home of gorgeous stores such as Versace, Louis Vuitton and Prada, none of which I could afford, but only simply dream about! We decided to have lunch in the mall, where we could sit and enjoy the lovely views, whilst being cosy and warm away from the rain.

During our previous trip to Rome, Sam really wanted to go to an Italian football match. I originally had a typical girl eye-roll reaction, thinking 'really? football? on holiday'. But, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed attending the match in Rome - It was a totally different experience to UK football and the atmosphere was just crazy! The fans had so much energy and were so passionate, they barely stopped singing throughout the match! They also let off flares within the stadium, which I'm pretty sure is not legal in any way - but no-one seemed to care! So we decided since it was a rainy day in Milan, we would enjoy another Italian football match experience, and it didn't disappoint - I would definitely recommend experiencing the atmosphere at one of these events, even if your not a football fan! After the match, we had a quick cappuccino and cake stop, before we visited Leonardo Di Vinci's Last Supper painting. It wasn't the most exciting tour, but it's a pretty cool thing to say you've seen in person, and it was much bigger than I expected! We finished off the first day by enjoying a lovely meal and trying the local dish of Milanese Risotto. A brilliant end to a wonderful first day!

Stay tuned for Milan day 2 - coming soon!

  2. Milan looks gorgeous and I'm glad the weather didn't stop you from exploring, I know full well that if my boyfriend and I were to go inter-railling we'd be stopping off at a lot of football matches along the way and if they're like how you described with energy and passion i'm sure we'd both absolutely love it!
